O Lord of My Heart…
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. (Prov 29:18)
A very old and beautiful Irish hymn that reminds me of many verses from The Holy Bible having to do with finding the Lord and being born again.
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: (Matt 6:19)
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: (Matt 6:20)
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Matt 6:21)

The commandment Jesus gave us is to seek the kingdom of God first, above all else. (Matt 6:33)
Having our minds stayed on the Lord at all times is something that comes with practice and desire; while being drawn to Christ by God the Father. (John 6:44)
Someone once described it as being saturated in the word of God, totally immersed; and to me, that’s what this hymn reflects.
The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. (Ps 18:2)
Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. (Ps 73:25)
My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. (Ps 73:26)
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; (Titus 2:13)
He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. (Rev 21:7)
There are so many verses that come to mind as I listen to this amazing hymn from the 6th century it overwhelms me; so I leave it up to you, who are attuned, to find your own connections in God’s word.
I will let the lyrics speak for themselves:
BE THOU MY VISION
Be Thou my vision, O
Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to
me, save that Thou Art.
Thou my best thought,
by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping,
Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom,
Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee,
Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father,
and I thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling,
and I with Thee one.
Be Thou my battle-shield,
sword for the fight,
Be Thou my dignity,
Thou my delight.
Thou my soul’s shelter,
Thou my high tower.
Raise Thou me
heavenward,
O Power of my power.
Riches I heed not,
nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine inheritance,
now and always:
Thou and Thou only,
first in my heart,
High King of heaven,
my Treasure Thou art.
High King of heaven,
after victory won,
May I reach heaven’s joys,
O bright heav’ns son!
Heart of my own heart,
whatever befall,
Still be my vision,
O ruler of all.
Be Thou my vision, O
Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to
me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best thought,
by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping,
Thy presence my light.
