Long Long Journey…

Valley-of the-shadow-of-death

Through the Darkness…

He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death. (Job 12:22)

He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. (Dan 2:22)

To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. (Luke 1:79)

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. (1John 1:5)

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. (Acts 26:18)

Long Long Journey | Enya | Lyrics:

Another beautiful song that reminds of the walk of the narrow way; the only way Jesus gave us to attain true authentic salvation.

Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (Matt 7:14)

A quick word study on “the way” to help explain my thoughts about this song:

the way” is translated from Strong’s G3598:

G3598 ὁδός hodos (ho-d̮os’) n.

  1. a road.
  2. (by implication) a progress (the route, act or distance).
  3. (figuratively) a mode or means.
    [apparently a primary word]
    KJV: journey, (high-)way

It is a journey like no other, and definitely not a “sinner’s prayer” nor an “altar call;” neither of which are Biblical. The Lord will take you down a way you know not, nor could ever imagine!

And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. (Isa 30:21)

And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them. (Isa 42:16)

I once did a study of Psalm 23 because I thought it was a perfect example of how the Old Testament flows with the New Testament; in this case, the commandment of Jesus to walk the narrow way.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. (Ps 23:4)

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (Matt 7:13)

It is a way that reveals our inner hidden heart to us and shows us—experientially—why we need a Saviour; the reason Jesus came.

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jer 17:9)

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, (Luke 4:18)

But that is a matter for a whole other Blog Post, so for now I will finish with this:

A big thank you to my dear old friend Scubie for reminding me of this song, and a special thank you to another dear friend Arthur James for bringing it to our attention in the first place; long, long ago…

City lights shine on the harbour,
Night has fallen down,
Through the darkness
And the shadow
I will still go on.

Long, long journey
Through the darkness,
Long, long way to go,
But what are miles
Across the ocean
To the heart that’s coming home?

Where the road
Runs through the valley,
Where the river flows,
I will follow every highway
To the place I know.

Long, long journey
Through the darkness,
Long, long way to go,
But what are miles
Across the ocean
To the heart that’s coming home?

Long, long journey
Out of nowhere,
Long, long way to go;
But what are sighs
And what is sadness
To the heart that’s coming home?

Long, long journey
Through the darkness,
Long, long way to go,
But what are miles
Across the ocean
To the heart that’s coming home?

Long, long journey
Out of nowhere,
Long, long way to go;
But what are sighs
And what is sadness
To the heart that’s coming home?

And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh: (Ezek 11:19)

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. (Ezek 36:26)

Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. (2Cor 3:3)

  1. Thank you for the lovely message today!
Yashua gave us a very simple solution to our imprisonment in this realm. Simple but not at a easy, my 45 year journey down the narrow path was actually quite difficult and very painful at times….but the result was way more beautiful than I could ever have imagined!
    Much love and many blessings,
    Linda
