studyin’ about that good ol’ way…
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2Tim 2:15)
The song below reminds me of the call to walk the narrow way to life eternal (Matt 7:13-14); sung in a very old-fashion and simple kind of way. It brings peace to my soul as I listen and think upon the word of God, while walking the narrow way…

But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. (Job 23:10)
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. (Ps 32:8)
I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me. (Ps 119:30)
In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death. (Prov 12:28)
And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. (Isa 30:21)
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (Matt 7:14)
And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. (John 14:4)
“Water” can also be a code word for the divine “Agape” love of God, which helps explain the “water” baptism and many other “water” verses of Scripture.
Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters. (Ps 114:8)
As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country. (Prov 25:25)
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3:5)
Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. (John 4:10)
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (John 7:38)
And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? (Acts 8:36)
And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. (Rev 22:1)
Down to the River to Pray
LYRICS
As I went down in the river to pray
Studyin’ about that good ol’ way
And who shall wear the starry crown?
Good Lord show me the way, oh…
As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol’ way
And who shall wear the robe & crown?
Good Lord show me the way
O sisters let’s go down
Let’s go down, come on down
O sisters let’s go down
Down in the river to pray
As I went down in the river to pray
Studyin’ about that good ol’ way
And who shall wear the starry crown?
Good Lord show me the way!
O brothers let’s go down
Let’s go down, come on down
O brothers let’s go down
Down in the river to pray
Hmmm…Oh…
Come on down
Down in the river to pray
Ooo…Oh, oh…O
O sinners, let’s go down
Let’s go down, come on down
O sinners, let’s go down
Down in the river to pray
And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither. (Acts 16:13)
