That’s what matters…
I had never heard this song before, until a dear sister in the Lord sent it to me, writing, “This song sort of says it all”; and indeed it does.
It’s pretty amazing how different things look, depending upon what lens we view it through, very much like it is when we read the Bible. There’s a worldly view and a spiritual view.
A ton of Scripture flooded in as I listened to this sweet voice singing the profound words of this song, and it reminded me:
It is our last state that God accepts.
If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be. (Eccl 11:3)
Ezekiel 18:20-24:
The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. (Ezek 18:20)
But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. (Ezek 18:21)
All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live. (Ezek 18:22)
Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live? (Ezek 18:23)
But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. (Ezek 18:24)
This song speaks of love, but there is only one love that matters in the end.
The Bible calls this type of love “Agape/Agapao” in the Greek [Strong’s G26/G25], the DIVINE LOVE OF GOD.
In First Corinthians Chapter 13, the Divine Love of God is referred to as “Charity”; and if we do not have it, we are nothing.
Truly there is only one commandment in the New Testament that matters; and we must be AUTHENTICALLY BORN AGAIN in order to fulfil it:
Matt 22:36-40:
Master, which is the great commandment in the law? (Matt 22:36)
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. (Matt 22:37)
This is the first and great commandment. (Matt 22:38)
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (Matt 22:39)
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (Matt 22:40)
The Scriptures tell us that all the things of this world are vanity (Eccl 1:2); and cannot compare to what the Lord has laid up in store for those who love [agapao] Him.
For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. (Prov 8:11)
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love [agapao] him. (1Cor 2:9)
And so it is, in the end…
Eccl 12:13-14:
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. (Eccl 12:13)
For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. (Eccl 12:14)
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. (Heb 13:8)
LYRICS — IN THE END
It won’t matter about your political views
It won’t matter where you sat on the pew
Won’t make a difference how much you knew
When it comes down to the end
And it won’t matter what kind of car you drove
And it won’t matter where you lived on the road
Did you do your best? Did you love your most?
That’s what matters in the end
Cuz in the end, there’s no rewind
There’s no turning back the time
When you leave this world behind
Will they say you were their friend?
That’s what matters in the end
It won’t matter how many candles lit your cake
And it won’t matter if sometimes you slept in late
But if your love didn’t overcome your hate
Well, that’s what matters in the end
Cuz in the end, there’s no rewind
There’s no turning back the time
When you leave this world behind
Will they say you were their friend?
That’s what matters in the end
Cuz in the end, there’s no rewind
There’s no turning back the time
When you leave this world behind
Will they say you were their friend?
That’s what matters in the end
