“Some say love, it is a river”…
I have always loved this song, but until I became a Christian walking the “Narrow Way” I didn’t truly have a sense of what it might mean, at least to me.
It reminds me of the journey, the path that God has shown me leads to eternal life. This is my blessed hope, as I wait in the lowest room upon my Saviour and rebirth.
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; (Titus 2:13)
The word “river” is one of the Bible’s code words for God’s Divine Agape Love…
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (John 7:38)
…the type of love we can only understand once it has been revealed to us in the act of rebirth/regeneration.
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. (1John 3:1)
We are the prisoners, the captives, and the brokenhearted Jesus came for.
As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water. (Zech 9:11)
According to the Bible, this is a process that only happens when you have died a spiritual death; ergo, the word “rebirth” into a new life.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. (John 12:24)
I believe that is what this song is really all about. The roses/creations of God go through this process every winter; dying off and then coming back to life in the spring.
The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land; (Song 2:12)
As the rebirth/regeneration is described in the Bible, we only go through the process once, just as Jesus did.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (1Pet 1:3)
Like others on the narrow way walk, I sit, occupy, and wait for the Lord’s appearing.
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. (John 14:21)
LYRICS:
Some say love, it is a river
That drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love, it is a hunger
An endless aching need
I say love, it is a flower
And you, its only seed
It’s the heart that fears the breaking
That never learns the dance
It’s the dream afraid of waking
That never takes a chance
It’s the one who won’t be taken
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul, afraid of dying
Who never learns to live
When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and for the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the Sun’s love
In the Spring becomes the rose
When the night has been too lonely
When the road has been too long
When you think that love is only,
Only for the lucky, the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the Sun’s love
In the Spring becomes the rose, the rose
